Occupational health merger creates regional heavyweight

Healthwork and Hobson Health have merged, creating one of the largest occupational health providers in the North West.

The merger creates a combined business with 125 employees and enhances its offer to both new and existing customers, who now have a choice of eight locations and will benefit from a wider range of products. It will also be one of the largest occupational health training organisations in the country, providing training for clinical staff to maintain the highest standards of care. Healthwork was the first occupational health provider to gain SEQOHS accreditation.

The Board of the expanded business will be composed of the existing owners of Healthwork and the owner of Hobson Health, John Hobson. All four are fully accredited specialists in occupational medicine.

Tok Hussain, CEO of Healthwork, said: “This is an exciting time for us all. We are two quality, clinically-led businesses, both focused on the delivery of excellent service and it makes sense to come together. We will have an expanded geographical reach which will allow us to help more customers with benefits for the health and well-being of their workers.”

Who are HealthWork?
HealthWork are an occupational health business based in Manchester and with offices in Liverpool, Leeds and London. They are a successful OH business who have been providing high quality OH services for fifteen years.

Why is this merger happening?
Both businesses have worked collaboratively in recent years to the benefit of our customers. We know each other well, we believe in the same things and we have the same passions. We both want to see more employers and their workers benefitting from the best OH services in the country and we believe we can achieve this better together.

The new business will employ thirty doctors specialising or training in occupational medicine and a team of over thirty specialist OH nurses as well as OH technicians, counsellors and physiotherapists. Customers of both existing businesses will be able to access new services including mobile health surveillance and access to mental health specialists and better availability of our services across more of the country.

What changes will we see?
The service will continue seamlessly. We anticipate that your service will improve as customers of both businesses are able to take advantage of the different services the other business has to offer. In the case of HH customers you will be given access to our new portal as we move our systems to the successful and proven HealthWork case management system. This will improve access to our services and increase data security. Your service will also improve as we improve the efficiency of our services.

Who will own the new company?
The combined business will be owned by John Hobson, current Hobson Health owner and the three current owners of HealthWork, Tok Hussain, Shaun Austin and Shahed Khan. Each director will have a 25% stake in the new business. We are all specialist OH doctors who between us have over one hundred years of practising occupational medicine and almost fifty years of owning and running successful OH businesses. We have all also occupied senior roles in the speciality of occupational medicine including with the Society and Faculty of Occupational Medicine as well as at Manchester and Birmingham universities.

What will happen to the Hobson Health and WorkFit names?
There are no plans to change names. These names are known and trusted by our customers.

Are there any plans to close any offices or parts of the business?
The plan is to grow the business and meet our combined vision of being the best provider of OH services in the country. We have no plans to close any offices and envisage further new offices opening as we expand. We will also continue to develop our academy to train the best specialist OH nurses and doctors and to help address the shortage of these specialists in the UK.
