Absence Management

Our absence management support provides professional opinion and guidance about employees’ sickness absence; whether the absence is repeated, short or long term.  Referrals are managed by our team of occupational health advisors and physicians.

The Office for National Statistics states that sickness absence rates for 2017 has fallen to the lowest rates on record:(https://www.ons.gov.uk/employmentandlabourmarket/peopleinwork/employmentandemployeetypes/articles/sicknessabsencefallstothelowestratein24years/2018-07-30)

However, there continues to be an increase in the incidence of mental health and musculo-skeletal issues.  The ageing workforce has also had a significant impact on levels of absence.

We have experience of working with companies of all sizes and from many sectors to manage sickness absence and will advise on the best policy for your organisation, as well as supporting you with tailor-made absence referral systems, case conferences and management training.  Early intervention is critical as evidence suggests that the longer an individual is away from work, this reduces the chances of the individual returning to their normal functioning and productivity in the workplace after sickness absence. Consultations can be undertaken face to face or by telephone either at our offices or at your companies’ sites.

Why should you consider absence management?

  • To have a consistent approach to absence management within your business
  • To help reduce the cost and impact of absence
  • To obtain advice about an employee’s health problem, fitness for work and how they can be supported to return to work including any requirement for temporary or permanent adjustments or restrictions.
  • To gain advice and suggestions about how to reduce the likelihood of further absences
  • To make relevant employment decisions such as change of job role, negotiated reduction in hours or termination of employment because of sickness absences with the backup of expert medical opinion.

We understand how costly and disruptive absence can be to an organisation and have a proven track record of early intervention to help companies reduce their absence level and therefore the cost and impact of sickness.
